First day volunteering at Dungeness

It was Thursday 18th August 2022 and I was looking forward to my trip to Dungeness RSPB hopefully to volunteer to work on the reserve. It was another very hot day as we have been experiencing this summer.

We had no particular bird that we wanted to see but walked around the reserve with an open mind. The most interesting bird we found on the day was a Glossy Ibis. This was seen at Dengemarsh hide in the distance next to a Great White Egret and a Little Egret. You can see the Glossy Ibis in front of the Great White Egret in the photograph, there are lots of other birds in the image how many can you see?

We found several other birds in our walk including Common Sandpiper, Buzzards (no Honey Buzzards), Little Egret, Whitethroat, Greenfich, Chaffinch, Reed Bunting and Great Crested Grebe. The day was more interesting for the numerous flies, bees, butterflies and dragonflies that were on view. Adam was skilled enough to catch a dragonfly in flight with its spectacular colour display.

It was an eventful trip in the end but hopefully next week we can start to volunteer i earnest. The best photograph path day was the dragonfly but all in all there were plenty of opportunities to use the camera.
