Half Term Birding

It has been a very hard half term for us as we have been isolating but that didn't stop us going wildlife photographing. we have been seeing the most incredible birds like Hobby Falcons , White Storks , Peregrine Falcons , Cuckoos , Bearded Tits and more. We went to places like Dengemarsh , Rye Harbour , Combe Valley and more.

On the way to Dengemarsh we saw a Peregrine Falcon flying over our car. When we arrived at Dengemarsh there were a huge number of geese with their young. There was also a significant number of Reed Bunting as we could hear them all over the site. It was again a beautiful day and we were in a rush to get to the viewing platform as we thought there was a good chance of finding the Bearded Tits again.

The Bearded Tits were present but they were difficult to photograph as always. We had some fantastic sights of the Hobby, Cuckoo and Marsh Harrier, there seems to be a significant increase in the number of harriers as we quite often see 2/3 or more. The highlight yet again were the Hobby who were catching dragonflies on the wing and eating them immediately.

Later int eh week we decided to visit Castle Water as it is an area we had not been too since the lockdown. It was a pleasant walk in the evening sunshine with all of the usual suspect birds in attendance, of interest was the Goose photographed below, is it a Snow Goose? We are not sure but as is sisal with the species it was huddled up with a flock of Greylag Geese.
