Dungeness

We decided to go to Dungeness this weekend as there has been a decent amount seen there, most of the birds seen where on Burrows pit but instead of going there immediately we decided to go and do a sea watch from the hide on the beach. We didn’t see and awful lot, just some Gannet and Sandwich Tern so we quickly decided to leave the hide and head down to the reserve where we started seeing much rarer birds. There wasn’t much from Dennis’ hide or Firth lookout but one we got to Makepeace lookout we saw a distant Red Throated Diver and an also distant Slavonian Grebe. We then looked to our right and saw the two Black Necked Grebe right infant of Scott Lookout so we darted over there to try and see them. They were quite close when we got there giving us some decent shots before they drifted off further into Burrows pit. After a while more stuff came along including Marsh Harrier, Common Buzzard, Wren and a Water Rail lurking in the reeds. Near the end of the day someone pointed out that something flew over behind the reeds, so we decided to wait for it to be visible. 30 seconds later a Red Throated Diver appeared from the reeds giving us top tier views before also drifting out into the water, after this we decided to make our way home.
