Elmley, Wednesday 12th April 2022

Today we went to Elmley nature reserve, it was a long drive about an hour and 45 minutes but it was worth it because we saw amazing birds and mammals.

  1. Hares are all over the reserve and it is not that hard finding them there.

  2. Stoats are a bit harder to find but they do occasionally run across the path.

  3. Bar tailed Godwits are in the first hide there and there are six there.

  4. Avocets are in most of the hides but they are most common at hide 1.

  5. Mediteranian gulls are at the first hide as well, we saw as many as 17 of them at one time

  6. Little owl was at the abandon school near the car park. At first he was sat in a small tree next to the school and then flew to the box behind the building where they say the female is sat on eggs.

  7. Grey Herons, there are a few but they get quite close on the trail to the car park however you are not allowed to get out of your car on this trail.

  8. Cattle eager are usually where the cows are or at the lake by the entrance.

  9. Kestrel are quite common usually hovering over you.

  10. Marsh Harriers and Buzzards are around most of the reserve.

Sadly we did not see the Barn owl or the Short Eared owl but we will try again in the future.
