It’s a Rare Falcon
On the Sussex Ornithological Society site we saw a sighting of a Red Footed Falcon at Beeding Hill. The next day we had a 45 minute journey to Beeding Hill and we started walking but then we saw a birder who said he hadn't seen it but then another birder went past and said she saw it and gave us directions and sure enough we saw a bunch of birders with cameras but no scopes for some reason ? So they said it was on the post over there and we saw small kestrel size falcon sat on the fence and soon it started flying and hovering and a few times it landed on the floor.
The Red Footed Falcon is a rare bird that is not often seen in England. It is closely related to the Kestrel and has many similar habits. Whilst we were there it gave a fantastic display of its flying ability hovering over it’s prey before pouncing on it.
