Rickney Bridge
Another visit to the bridges that cross the River Rickney near Hailsham. The weather was dry and sunny, different to what we had experienced in the past few weeks but it was a good opportunity to get out and about.
When in the area we are always pleased to se the Kingfisher usually catching a quick glimpse as it flashes by. This time it was different in that the bird sat on a perch, had a quick survey around and then flew off. Spending a little more time was a good option as the bird revisited the perch a further 8 times in the coming two hours. The highlight was when two birds sat on the same perch, a breeding pair?
Taking the photograph was difficult as the perch was in the shade exaggerating the contrast between the colours of the bird and the background. The birds only settled for a few seconds at a time suggesting that his is some form of territorial outpost rather than a feeding perch? Hopefully we will be able to confirm this in the future especially if the birds need to provide food for their offspring.
Whilst waiting for the Kingfisher there was plenty of song especially from the resident Chiffchaff. Luckily the bird decided to put in a close appearance resting in the image above. The Song Thrush was busy in the damp farmers field collecting food.
