Two Weeks

In the last two weeks we have been birding in 7 different places. The first two places where in Liverpool, we went to Liverpool to see family but we ended up going birding as well, first we went so Sefton Park to see Ring Necked Parakeet and most of the common duck and goose species. After this we went to RSPB Burton Mere to see basic marshland birds like Marsh Harrier, Great White Egret, Hobby and more.

The next two places where in North Wales, we first went to World’s end which is a large area of open moorland and we went here to see Red Grouse and maybe if we are lucky Black Grouse even though it is the wrong time to see them. We did see Red Grouse but as expected we did not see any Black Grouse, after this we headed an hour along the coast to RSPB Conwy where we didn’t see much and nothing worth talking about but it was quite a nice place.

After we got back from Liverpool we first went to Dungeness but we didn’t see much more than what we saw at Burton Mere and most rare birds where quite distant. A few days later we heard about the report of a Curlew Sandpiper at Cuckmere so we headed over in the morning before it got hot and we got to see it feeding in mud for a while before we left due to the heat. At the end of the week we heard good reports of a place in north Kent called Oare Marshes and we ended up taking an early trip to the reserve. Immediately three Spoonbill where just sat on a distant island, after spending 10 minutes looking at the Spoonbill we took a walk to the location where a Bonaparte’s gull was sighted and after half an hour of searching someone next to us spotted it and it was quite far but we could easily identify it from the distance it was. After this we took a walk around the places we thought that was it before we got back to the first location where we saw at least 20 birders looking out at the island. They where looking at another Curlew Sandpiper, a Spotted Redshank, a Ruff and of course the three Spoonbill, after this we thought we have seen it all but then someone looked at the telephone wires behind us and saw 2 Turtle Doves in a flock of Starling sadly they where to far for any of our cameras and we needed scopes to even see them.
